Practical notes for groups in Switzerland

  • Groups travel by coach, with scenic trains such as the Bernina Express and Jungfraujoch as excursions. Seats should be reserved months ahead in summer.
  • Mountain excursions depend on the weather, so we build in flexible days and alternatives.

FAQ

Group tours in Switzerland: your questions

When is the best time for a group tour of Switzerland?

June to September is best for mountain excursions, lakes and scenic railways. December to March suits winter programmes. Some mountain railways and cable cars close for maintenance in spring and late autumn, so we check dates before quoting.

How do the scenic trains work for a coach group?

Scenic routes such as the Bernina Express and Jungfraujoch are booked as excursions with reserved group seats. The coach carries the luggage and meets the group at the arrival station.

Can a coach drive into Zermatt?

No. Zermatt is car-free, so the coach parks in Täsch and the group takes the 12-minute shuttle train into the village, with luggage transferred separately.

What if the weather is bad on a mountain day?

Mountain excursions depend on visibility, so we build flexibility into the programme and keep a lower-altitude alternative ready, such as a lake cruise or a visit to Lucerne's old town.

Can Switzerland be combined with Italy or France?

Yes. The Swiss lakes connect by coach with northern Italy, and Geneva with France. See the multi-country itinerary, the Italy page or the Switzerland group itinerary.
